THE GRAND CANYON, SOUTH RIM, ARIZONA

The Grand Canyon is soooo AMAZING!!!

This place has been on my bucket list since a young child. I vowed to myself long ago that I would see this place before I died some day, and as soon as we knew we would be driving West it was placed at the top of the list of stops along the way. I knew wouldn’t overcome my fear of heights prior to seeing this place but I was prepared for what was in store.

WHERE'S THERE 15 : HORSESHOE BEND, PAGE ARIZONA

We had seen photos of Horseshoe Bend but honestly didn’t realize it was so close to Antelope Canyon, so while leaving the city of Page we almost missed this site. If you blink while driving you will literally drive past the sign off the side of the highway as there is no visual of this amazing place from the car. You pull off the road into a dirt lot, hike up a hill to the top, (bring water, it's a hike and hot in the summers!) walk over the hill an down to the edge where you will see the canyons an Horseshoe Bend. For those fearful of heights (hand raised, this girl right here!) be warned there are no rails holding you back from falling so where some good ole sneakers. Also there were so many people and families braving it to sit on the edge and dangle their legs off for that candid photo that I had to turn and walk away as I worried some. This place though, so beautiful and I’m so glad it was a stop on our drive... but I’ll gladly snap my photo 10 feet from the edge with a selfie stick if needed, thank you. ;)

ANTELOPE CANYON, PAGE ARIZONA

High on our bucket list was Lower Antelope Canyon, also known as “ Hazdistazí or Spiral Rock Arches”. We had seen many photos of this place but honestly after seeing a few photo featured by our talented photographer friend we were a bit unsure of it’s natural beauty an if we’d even be able to capture it in all it's awe. This canyon is known as a slot canyon, which was formed over time by the erosion of flash floods in the high monsoon seasons. As we approached the canyons edge, our guided group climbed 5 flights down into the earth and low and behold it was one of the most magical places we’ve ever seen. The way the light came into the space was beyond real an we were amazed. I couldn’t believe that no matter how bad of a photo I thought I took, each one was better than the last. I highly recommend the early morning tour hours when the light is shining down into the canyon… and well… you be the judge of the photos. We were pretty pleased with our trip there and we’ll surely be back. Enjoy!

PENNY ARCADE IN MANITOU SPRINGS CO

So my guy looooves video games and both of us are children at heart, so when a friend (Thanks Kaylen!) mentioned to stop at the Penny Arcade while in Colorado Springs we just had to. This place has more games than I could count on my hands and toes, an most of the games were a quarter, some even 10 cents! We tried out our hand at all of our favorites, Rampage, Ms Pacman, Pinball, Tetris and even a little Skee-Ball, plus we meet up with a few local KC friends who traveled out to Colorado which made it even that much more fun. If you visit the Manitou Springs area make sure to pop on in here, an people with kiddos, this stops especially for you, and they have ice cream and taffy to get your sugar high on while gaming.

GARDEN OF THE GODS

We had a few places in mind when we started mapping out our road trip, an the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs was a destination spot on the list. We had both wanted to see an hike this park in person and heard great things of the space. We actually meet up with some friends who also traveled in to the area and made a morning of exploring the space all together. I love all the rocks an various formations throughout the park. A little down in my photos you will see an image of "Siamese Twins" which was two similar stones that was by far my favorite collection of rocks. The lighting thru the park was quite amazing too and as the light reflected off the rocks it gave them a reddish hue which made for some really great photographs. Enjoy!

WHERE'S THERE 14 : RED ROCK CANYON OPEN SPACE

I can now check one off the list of places to see. This photo above was from our recent visit to Colorado Springs. On this day we did a lot of exploring an had hiked a good 5+ miles around Red Rock Canyon Open Space. It was a beautiful walk around trails an even into a small quarry, plus we spotted some wildlife including a close encounter with a doe. If have a chance to explore this park it’s worth the stop.

FOOD REVIEW // 503W COLORADO SPRINGS

We decided that this Summer, while the kids spent 4 weeks in the Northeast with grandparents, we would venture by car (Prius to be exact and wow did it get great gas) to California and back. That’s right, you can call us crazy, we may be a little, but we did it and had a blast exploring a lot of new to us places along the way. I’ll be sharing some places we loved to eat, stay, sights we saw and overall things we enjoyed exploring on our long 17 day haul.... and for those curious, it was 67+ hours in the car and we still love each other, maybe even a bit more than before. ;)

First up, food! After a day (8+ hours) in the car we made it to Colorado Springs. Dinner for the night was thanks to a cute little kitchen + craft beer eatery called 503W. We had never visited Colorado so I decided to do a little hunting prior to our trip for some local places worth stopping at that may fit our taste and this little restaurant had caught my eye. The atmosphere was casual and modern, the service was speedy and super friendly, an the overall food plus presentation… let’s just say it impressed us an we’ll surely be back! Though not pictured, we also ordered a flavored moscow mule which was equally enjoyed. Have you been to 503W? What did you think?
