TRENDING TUESDAYS : WOODEN TOYS
.Wooden toys. Something about the material of wood fascinates me. The organic quality and the lines of the wood showing age an wear. Beyond the traditional wooden toy blocks (an yes I've included some blocks above too) there are so many new wooden objects out there for either play or personal display. Here's a few I've spotted and love. We own a handful of number 5, an each of us has a different color we personally love. Do you own any wood toys you fancy?

FOOD // MINT CHOCOLATE BLACK BOTTOM PIE
.
I love sweet treats - cookies, candies, cakes, pies, oh my! There's no hiding that I have a huge sweet tooth, that just loves to be filled. An with the holiday season up us I find myself making so many sweets I just couldn't help but share one. I thought I would share a recipe that I have made a few times again an again and just love! It's a bit rich for some but if you love chocolate this recipes perfect for you. Also if you're not a big mint fan, you can minus the mint by modifying the chocolate chips back to 8 oz. of regular chips. Enjoy and Happy Holidays!
MINT CHOCOLATE BLACK BOTTOM PIE
Approx Time 4 Hours (due to chill times) // Serves 6-8
Ingredients
3 1/4 cups heavy cream
6 ounces semisweet chocolate chips
2 ounces andies mint baking chips
1 teaspoon of mint extract
1 tablespoon of spiced rum (we used captain morgan)
1 chocolate cookie pie crust
1/2 cup toasted macadamia nuts, coarsely chopped
2 tablespoons or confectioners' sugar
Directions
1.) In a medium microwave safe bowl, heat 1 1/4 cups of cream until hot, approx 3 minutes. Add chocolates and let stand until melted, approx 5-10 minutes. Whisk to combine, then whisk in rum. Pour chocolate mixture into pie crust and reserve a little for the topping later. If you don't care to decorate your pie just add all of the mix into your pie filling. Sprinkle nuts over top an refrigerate pie 3 hours // or up to 2 days.
2.) In a large bowl, use and electric mixer ( I used my food processor), beat 2 cups cream, mint extract and sugar on high until stiff peaks form, approx 2-3 minutes. Top pie with whipped cream. Used reserved chocolate mixture to decorate your pie. I also shaved some andies mints on top of the pie when I was done.

TRENDING TUESDAYS : ADVENT CALENDARS
.So occasionally, on Tuesdays, I thought I would take a stab at sharing a few things I have seen lately, an I enjoy. Be it a few different trendy DIY's or maybe something more holiday/seasonally appropriate, but needless to say, today's grouping is that of Advent Calendars. We have a few (3 lego advents + one candy advent) set up in our home this year but I love these takes on an advent. The handmade feel, an paper craft is just more personal to heart. After seeing such inspiration, I think next year I'll be rethinking ours a little calendar to make it a bit more special. Do you do a daily advent leading up to Christmas? What's it look like? If you have a photo of something creative you do or care to share link it below in the comments for us to see.

MUSIC : BØRNS
.
What about some new tunes?! An why not from one of my newer favorite artists BØRNS aka Garrett Borns. In October ’15 his debut album Dopamine was released which features some amazing songs. His acoustic solos are equally impressive, but don’t let me be a judge an have a listen for yourself. You can find most of his other music on his personal page (linked below) or over on YouTube. WHERE'S THERE 12 : KAKSLAUTTANEN ARTIC RESORT
.
Wow, just WOW! While hunting for winter wonderlands I came across the Kakslauttanen Artic Resort in Finland and felt an excitement come over me. There are places I would love to visit some day and this one just made the high list. An enchanting holiday resort, covered in snow and glass igloos an log cabins. Sled rides by dog or hiking about the wilderness. You can see more photos on the link below, but looks so magical, doesn't it? I had a little hiccup when I glanced at their reservations, but a girl can dream, right?

SANDIDOODLES : DECEMBER + GOALS
.
December!?! How is it December, an the 3rd to be exact. I was mentioning to my better half last weekend that the year has just flown right by and what have I done with myself? Though my blog hasn’t been as updated as I hoped it would have been for 2015, I have been busy on the back end with family, life, home projects, work, doodling and more… To say that I haven’t been busy would be an understatement. As 2016 is almost here I started thinking about the year(s) behind me and all the ideas of things I’ve hopes to achieve. My goals lists have always been both big and small, an when I finally finish my list I’ll share some of it here...
One of my goals for the year behind us was to doodle something new every week. There were a few weeks I was off, because of schedules and poor timing I'm sure but all in all I tried my best. Am I'm pretty proud of myself for doing so. In October I challenged myself to the online #Inktober craze an felt very successful after it too. You may see those doodles over on IG under my hashtag #sandidoodles. My yearly goal of doodling will continue, but in the year ahead I hope to challenge myself more an in few new ways. I'll share more about this later.
So what are some of your goals from the year past? Did you achieve your goals?
Do you have goals for the year ahead you'd care to share?
I hope you're December started off well.
Much love,

INKTOBER 2015!
.Inkober!!! Say what?! Ok so if you’re an artist an still haven’t ever hear of this wonderful month it’s time to take a second to pop on over to the website and read all about it. But a quick rundown of what it is… well it’s a month of inking, doodling and being creative. Artist from all over the world pull out their pens an supplies to doodle one piece a day. It’s a way of brushing up on your skills and sharing your talent with others, plus being inspired thru the month. If you’re on social media you can search the hashtag #inktober or #inktober2go and see all of the work being posted daily. If you’re like me, sometimes it's hard to commit to a daily doodle, I understand that... so I may doodle an extra illustration to post a day later, but all in all it should be fun. An it’s not to late to still join in the craze. If you join in, please leave me a link below to your social media so I may see it too. Here’s mine so far... an you may follow me via IG under the hashtag #sandidoodles. Happy Inktober sweet friends!

VINTAGE COLLECTIBLES : ITEMS FOR SALE
.Oh this tray... oh swooooooon! As we've been decorating our new pad, I've come to the decision that we don't need it all. I've collected various vintage treasures for a number of years and as nice as it is to keep items (aka hoard them, ha!) it's also nice to live with a little less at times... An as I've been feeling overwhelmed lately with the amount of stuff I do own, it's time to say goodbye to some of it in hopes they'll find forever new homes. I won't be posting on the blog every update to my shop, because this space isn't for promoting my vintage goods, but you may pop on over to my Etsy shop ADALOU an follow along there (there's also a link in the top menu bar) if you'd care to peek around from time to time. Have a lovely day sweet friends!

MUSIC : THE GRISWOLDS
.
So have you heard of the indie rock band The Griswolds. An yes that’s right, their name is after that fictional family from the Vacation series… but beyond this, their music is amazing. The band released their debut in 2012, and though I do enjoy their popular other singles I would have to say my favorite is “Beware the Dog”. The video, well, we'll hope you enjoy that too. You may find them via social media linked below too. Enjoy and Happy Tuesday!

SANDI DOODLES : THE VIKING
.
Lately as I try to get back into the swing of things, an as the home projects slow down some, and I feel a sense of calm in our lives, I've started doodling again more... I have been sketching anything that comes to mind, but overall I have always gravitated towards drawing female figures. Something about the shape of their eyes, the styles of hair I can only imagine, or even a slight personality I may give to them in the gesture of their smirk has always been something I’ve enjoyed. Head dresses, hats, crowns, glasses and more are also fun to play around with an this viking was no different. I also dabbled in my kiddos colored pencils some. I’m not huge into incorporating color, I can but I don’t because I love the way clean black line work looks, but this piece was pleasant change from the norm. What are you doodling lately? If you care to see more of my doodles you may on the portfolio page >> here. Enjoy! Happy Thursday!

GOODBYE AUGUST, HELLO SEPTEMBER
.Where have I been... Holy Moly has it been to long. Please excuse my absence an realize I am working hard to be back here more on a full-time level. I miss this place so much but there have been may steps along the way to get me closer to being here more. I’m really close, an will be posting more frequently soon. I don’t want to ramble, but for those curious, and if you see me on IG you know this all already but… we bought a house at the beginning of the year that had a major overhaul which was done in late April, so we (me and the kiddos) move in. Then in May, my better half moved in with us, so we started tackling the merging our two separate homes down to one (that’s surely tricky when you have one furniture collector, one art collector, and two small hoarders ((sorry babe we have the gene a little)) new space. Mind you we’re now on to decorating but have a lot of fun pieces we are trying to blend into our home but some may still need to go ta-ta. My kiddos returned home from their Summer month to the East Coast with grandparents and family to then jump back in an start school. Which school… oh school… it’s been an

NEW HOME! WHERE HAVE WE BEEN...
.
So I'm been MIA for a bit now and I do apologize. Some of you have asked me "whats going on? did you buy a house? can we see pictures of it? where have you been lately?" well I've been right here, an there, an there, oh and over there too… and yes we bought a house back in January! I have been juggling so much the past few months that the blog had been put on a slight hold while we work to get all the details in order… an there's still a bit more to go before I will be back to this space full time… but thanks for you patience in the mean time. Lately I look like the below photo but I wanted to share some photo and info for those of you who were curious of our new space…
THE NEW HOME
We had been home hunting since last Fall. We really didn't find anything we liked an were feeling overwhelmed (at least I was) so before the holidays we put it on hold and then started looking again in January. We had been searching for a space big enough for all of us but we just couldn't find anything with-in the price range, style and location we needed. I'm sure our realtor was banana's in the end after all the homes we made her take us too, but then low and behold we found one. We skipped over this home at first because the exterior wasn't really to impressive, there was only one photo (exterior shot only) and the listing was "As-Is" and it is a government owned HUD (repossessed) home. We knew it may be a mess inside and need major work but after seeing it we discussed about making it our own. We had to move fast after seeing the home because it was actually going up for auction the day after to be sold by the bank. It was a nail biting process waiting but we won the auctioned bid and then the paperwork and planning began. We had a loan officer who was specialized in 203K loans, which is for home rehab projects, so after thinking it all over that was what we landed on. I had to serve as my own contractor and needed to hunt for certified contractors who could do all the work for us. We submit forms out the wazoo and ran background checks for approvals but in the end we have 2 contractors, a flooring company, and an electrician. The home was in need of some major work so we put the top things on a list and prioritized what we could afford for the loan and what we could come back to in the future. The major issues noted were - plumbing, electrical and a moldy wall and leaking roof… we knew there was water issues with the home, but it was tricky to work around as we were not granted permission for water to be on durning our inspection period, so we had to wait until after possession before we could analyze this more. Of course every didn't go as smoothly as planned and the home was winterized wrong and we had flooding and pipes burst in multiple places in our home. Needless to say all new plumbing needed to be installed a week into our renovation, so our bathrooms and walls were all tore open and still being put back together. The amp box to our home was not to code and updated. Our roof has some leak issues which is still being worked on. Our front foyer has mold that still needs some repair too… And then there was the glorious kitchen. None of our appliances passed inspection. I mean why would they, they were from the 60's. The layout in this space was horrible and the style, color, wallpaper, and overall space just wasn't cutting it. We looked at a bunch of photos (thanks to Pinterest) and decided that we should take out a wall and open up the whole thing. We added attic supports, changed the layout, installed new cabinets, counters to come, budgeted and have new appliances, pretty much the works. We're pretty pumped about this space now. The rest of the home was cosmetic issues… we have lots of painting hours under our belt and still more to come after moving into the space. Doors and walls where damaged from prior owners, and we are repairing things as we can. There was hardwood under the carpet, which we knew of, so we removed carpeting and spent countless hours pulling tacks in preparation for the flooring people to come in the sand and refinish them properly. Also our kitchen had new flooring laced in which was a nice plus. The home is definitely a "Labor of Love" but it's our home, an we're pretty excited about the potential of this new space where we can all live and enjoy together.
So what's still to come… the home is quickly being reassembled for us because moving day… well, it's this weekend!!! Eck! I also have 3 approaching birthdays to plan in our new home. We had discussed this long ago when home hunting began but JD (the boyfriend) is moving in with us so we decided it best to sell his home. We didn't want two homes over us so we've been multi-house juggling projects an getting his home ready too for weeks. It goes up to sell this week so send us some good vibes it sells quickly an that the process is painless, please. And well I think that's about a wrap for now… Enjoy the photos an until I am back here full-time I'll see you around social media. Much love,
