It’s hard not to compare yourself to others, I’m sure we all do it from time to time. We see something someone has and we want it, be it success in one area or another. Maybe a physical item you’ve been longing for an can’t acquire. Or maybe you think someone has that perfect life you want. To compare yourself only makes you more frustrated, an in the end you're only hurting yourself. Over the years I’ve learned a lot about myself and how to let some things go which surely has made me happier in the end.
Confession - There was a time I was envious of other artist. I think it’s in our nature to wish we were better or more successful. I know I had. Maybe we don't see it in ourselves and need assurance it’s actually there. Over the years I’ve learned to appreciate my own art, what I have, what I can create, how my art make me feel. I've learned not dwell on what I can’t do, because let's be honest, there is a lot I can’t do, but I’m ok with that. It’s a complicated concept to grasp for sure, but your talents are what makes you, you. It took me years to realize this an I wish I had understood it sooner. I will never paint abstract like Picasso or completely digital an realistic like Autumn Whitehurst (look her up, she’s amazing!) but I will create like me, an be happy with my work.
There are many quotes out there around this subject, but a few I've really enjoyed, I’m sharing here today. I hope you find them inspirational too. If there’s another quote you'd like to share in the comments below I’d love to hear it. Best!
